Even though we had driven Interstate 40 through Arizona many times, we had never taken the time to visit the Painted Desert or the Petrified Forest National Park. If we had only known how beautiful and intriguing it is, we would have planned to spend more time there. Here are some samples of our Arizona Adventures. If you have time you might want to spend the night at the Aspen Bed and Breakfast in Flagstaff. It's not much more than an hour away.

Petrified Forest National Park was established as a National Monument on December 8, 1906 and was elevated to a national park in 1962.
The park, located in northeastern Arizona, is a land of scenic wonders and fascinating science. It contains one of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood, archeological sites, and displays of 225 million year old fossils. It originally consisted of 93,533 acres, but was recently expanded to 218,533 acres.
