Since we now have the time, my wife and I like trying new and different restaurants. We enjoy going out to breakfast at unique places that are not part of a chain. Have you tried Benjies Deli and Restaurant in Santa Ana at Seventeenth and Tustin Ave? That is a place we really enjoy and return to often. How about the Chili Pepper on South Main Street in Orange for Saturday or Sunday Champagne Brunch? If you are at University Center in Irvine, try Britta's Cafe for breakfast.
How about downtown Santa Ana? You say nobody would go there? You don't know what you're missing. You should try The Gypsy Den for a delicious lunch and a unique experience. You might even want to try Los Pancho's. Both of these places are on Broadway near Fourth Street. (If you have had jury duty in Santa Ana you probably know where they are located since they are frequented by "the courthouse crowd.) Not far away, in downtown Tustin is Rutabegorz. It is great for lunch also.
Tustin has two of our other favorites for dinner. Christakis Greek Restaurant and Nieuport 17 are both located in Lafayette Plaza at Newport Blvd. and Irvine Blvd.
If you like authentic Mexican food, you should try El Farolito in Placentia, CA. They have great food and good margaritas at a reasonable price. You can expect it to be crowded during lunch on weekdays and at night on weekends. It is located at 201 S. Bradford Ave. in Placentia, CA 92870.
Waters Lakehouse in Irvine is a nice place for a special dinner. Try the House Special Grouper, macadamia nut encrusted grouper if you like fish. Try lunch on their patio overlooking the lake.
