The storm cellar at the "old home place." The story was that in excavating for the cellar, they came to solid rock. They then decided to build with solid concrete above the ground.
The storm cellar still exists near the foundation of the original house.

As indicated in Rags to Riches, Glen's autobiography, I grew up in the country in Southeastern Oklahoma. The closest grocery store was in Stuart, OK, a very small town ten miles away. The first of those ten miles was a dirt road as you can see in these photos. As most of us realize, it is interesting sometimes to go back to the "old home place" to witness the changes. That is what Jan and I did in August, 2004. This is what it looks like now, 43 years after I left there. Click on each photo below to see an enlarged version.
